Cafe Kubal

Cafe Kubal was hurting for an inventory system. Their current system was in Google Docs and failing to manage the low-level of responsibility it was assigned. At the same time as their basic functionality was failing them, Cafe Kubal desired new abilities in their system as well - COGS tracking primary among them.

We leveraged our friends on behalf of Cafe Kubal and unearthed a comparable company in San Francisco, a small chain of Tea Shops who had previously faced this problem. Speaking to their Director of Operations led us directly to the platfrom, TradeGecko, which had been successfully deployed in their organization.

We included all stakeholders in the design of the resulting system, TradeGecko Inventory Management, known as TIM. TIM was the product of conversation with baristas, cafe managers, kitchen managers, the company finance controller, and the CEO. Every one of them uses the system in different ways and from different access points. And we addressed them all.

The development of this project is ongoing. TIM continues to evolve now, nearly a year after initial design. We iteratively refine, add features, and minimize fluff. The application is tightly integrated with TradeGecko and by working in partnership with them on behalf of Cafe Kubal we leverage their API in novel ways.

The solution is the result of the many conversations between our development team and Cafe Kubal’s many stakeholders. It is a collection of web-based tools for cafe managers and baristas. It is a workflow inside of TradeGecko for the financial controller and the Director of Operations. Collectively, the system is used by the 100+ members of the Cafe Kubal team on a daily basis and handles their critical inventory management responsibilities with an easy interface and reliable infrastructure.

"Helping us plan for the future."

- Matt Godard, CEO at Cafe Kubal

"The Upstate Interactive team updated our inventory system to not only meet our current needs, but help us plan for the future. They interacted with our staff to write the inventory software with the user in mind, and wrote software to address the improvements we were seeking. Now, our baristas are doing better than ever and our enterprise can continue to grow."
